Individual Art Therapy

Individual art therapy sessions are in-person sessions offered for all ages and abilities and typically run for one hour in the studio. Individual sessions are built around the needs of the individual and can utilise both art making and talking therapy techniques. Individual therapy is grounded in trauma-informed practice with individuals at the forefront of planning to create a safe and supportive environment.

Group Art Therapy

Group art therapy sessions are in-person sessions offered to a range of groups with developmentally appropriate content and can run anywhere between one to two hours in the studio. Group art therapy can be a great way to improve social skills, connectedness, understanding of self and others, and emotional regulation. Groups are created specifically for the participants involved and endeavour to create a space that is safe, supportive, confidential and therapeutic.

Outreach

Creative Nook Art Therapy highly values inclusivity and accessibility, offering outreach to both groups and individuals. This means that art therapy can be conducted in homes, schools, workplaces or community spaces where therapeutic conditions are still able to be met. Confidentiality and safety are high priorities and always taken into account when offering outreach to make sure the space is suitable, supportive, and safe enough for the work to occur.

Online

Online therapy is offered to extend accessibility to those who may not wish or cannot access in-person sessions. Online therapy is available for individuals and groups, and uses the same values, approaches, and techniques as in-person therapy.

Process

While the process of receiving support through a therapist can be different for everyone depending on their needs, it can be helpful to have an idea of how this may look. Below are some basic steps that outline this process:

  • Referral or enquiry: Creative Nook Art Therapy is contacted and made aware that you are looking for support. You may complete a referral yourself or have one sent through via another health professional to support the enquiry.

  • Intake: Establishing needs, goals, and support: The therapist will have a conversation over the phone or if needed, meet in person to discuss support needs, goals for therapy and why you are seeking therapy.

  • Starting therapy: If Creative Nook Art Therapy is able to meet your needs, sessions will begin either in an ongoing capacity or an agreed upon number of sessions.

  • Assessment of therapy and goals: Throughout the course of therapy, the therapist will collaborate with you to assess the goals for therapy and your experience of the sessions. This may be an informal conversation or a more formal evaluation and, along with participants and relevant care-givers, plans for additional sessions or closure of services will be decided together.

  • Closure: When it is decided that therapy will come to a close, participants will always be aware well in advance and be part of the decision-making process where possible. You will be provided with opportunities to provide feedback on your experience of art therapy.
